The Pasco Veterinary Medical Center Volunteer Program was established to provide the individuals of our community an opportunity to experience real work situations and the working practice of a veterinary clinic. Our goal is to expose our volunteers to all aspects of a professional workplace in a veterinary practice setting. The program is designed to enable our volunteers to work in a cooperative environment, encourage team building skills, multitasking skills, instill professional work habits, accountability, and much more. They will have the opportunity to learn useful skills necessary in the operation of a veterinary clinic that benefits both our volunteers and us!

Pasco Veterinary Medical Center accommodates two kinds of volunteers: workers and observers. Each has specific rules and responsibilities that need to be followed by our volunteers at all times. The specifics of each will be addressed in greater detail at orientation.

A volunteer, who for any reason, does not want to contribute by working, may elect to be an observer. An observer is authorized to observe clinic operations, medical procedures, and business practices, as long as it does not interfere with the operations of the clinic. An observer is required to attend orientation, sign the volunteer consent form, and take part I of the aptitude test. They will not participate in any training, including on the job training. They may receive a 'Certificate of Participation' after 100 hours of observation.

Joe is our great worker volunteer!
A worker volunteer, is one who wishes to participate in our program by working in a veterinary clinic. They will be responsible for learning skills and performing duties assigned. They will have the opportunity to be trained both, on the job, and in a formal training environment. A worker is expected to attend orientation, sign the volunteer consent form, and take part I and II of the aptitude test. They will participate in any training, including on the job training necessary to perform their duties. They may receive a 'Volunteer Appreciation Certificate' after 50 hours of work and another certificate for each additional 50 hours worked thereafter.

Every volunteer is required to go through our Volunteer Orientation. These orientations are held each month on Saturdays. Call our office for specific dates and times. At orientation, each individual wishing to volunteer will be asked to write a 'Goal Statement'. A goal statement is an essay about what each individual hopes to learn from volunteering, what their personal and professional goals are, and how volunteering will enhance their ability to attain these goals. Come prepared!

The work ethics and experience our volunteers have the opportunity to gain in our program will benefit them, not only in the veterinary field, but in any professional work environment. If you are interested in our volunteer program, please call Pasco Veterinary Medical Center to enroll.
